There are instances when you meet your friends and family over the weekend or during the festive season. It is time of fun and celebration. However, it is common to overeat, leaving you feeling bloated and in need of a cleanse. In order to get your body back to normal working order, here are a few key foods that will help you detox after and will get rid of the uncomfortable bloat.

Green Tea

Green Tea is well-known to be packed with antioxidants. This means it can help flush toxins out of your liver – the perfect component on your detox journey. Drinking green tea can also boost your immune system, and it’s argued that it may be one of the most beneficial ways to cleanse your body.

Lemon

Lemon on its own, or lemon in hot water, is a great way to stop your stomach feeling heavy and bloated. The acidic content in lemons also helps in the smooth movement of food in your gastrointestinal tract. It’s a popular food of choice for those looking to lose weight, which may be just what you need if you overindulged during Diwali.

Beetroot

Much like green tea, beetroot can help to cleanse the liver. This is because they contain betalains which can help to neutralize toxins and flush them out of your body. Many people also prefer beetroot in a healthy smoothie.

Grapefruit

Grapefruit it popular with those trying to slim down. Scientists believe this is due to its fat-zapping phytochemicals, which assists in the breaking down of fat in the body. It can also help to reduce your appetite.

Broccoli

Broccoli is extremely beneficial when detoxing. In fact, all green vegetables are. Broccoli, in particular, has enzymes which help to detoxify your digestive tract. When trying to detox, it’s always a good idea to include one portion of green vegetables on your plate.

Cucumber

When you think of cucumber, you may be inclined to believe it’s something you put on your eyes to relax at a spa with. However, it can also be useful inside the body. Cucumbers help to produce more urine, which naturally means it secretes toxins out of the body. It’s also a diuretic food, meaning it helps water retention, keeping you hydrated for longer.

Spinach

Spinach is rich in fiber, which your body desperately needs when you’re trying to cleanse. It will help to build up bulk in the body and clean the gastrointestinal tract. The great thing about spinach is you can eat it raw or cooked to get all the nutrients.

Honey

Honey is amazing for the body when it comes to reliving the symptoms of constipation. For the ultimate detox drink, mix honey and lemon in some hot water. This will aid digestion and release toxins.

Apples

Apples are an underrated detox food. They work because they can help you to feel fuller for longer, as they’re rich in soluble fiber. Mix with water for a cleansing detox drink on the go.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds can help to keep any diseases at bay thanks to its mix of nutrients. Along with chia seeds, it can also help to cleanse the body. The best way to consume flaxseeds is by sprinkling them onto porridge or a salad at lunchtime.
