How to stay healthy during this holiday season?

How to stay healthy during this holiday season?
December 28, 2016Sarika NairUncategorized

The holiday season is here and we are felling happy and merry! The year is turning a corner and we are all ready to welcome the new year. I love new years. They bring in new hope, new dreams, new aspirations and new resolutions.

Taking care of our health is among the topmost resolutions of new year across the world. And we always start the year on this note to self. But till then we want to party and have fun. We throw caution to wind and indulge. And why not? All the festivals revolve around delicious food. What to do? We can’t help it, isn’t it? Actually WE CAN.

We can be a little more conscious and aware of our choices. Thus we can glide through this holiday season without wasting our efforts of the year and without doing much damage to our health.

Here are a few tips to stay healthy during this holiday season:

  1. Don’t forget your salads. They provide us with the necessary fibre and nutrients.
  2. Don’t skip meals.
  3. Eat only till you are 80 % full. Don’t over stuff yourself.
  4. Eat slowly and relish the food. This way you will eat less and enjoy more.
  5. Taste and pass the desserts. Instead of eating a full pastry/cake, just take a bite and pass it on.Even a small bite satisfies our craving so stop at that bite.
  6. Keep hydrated. Drink lots of water. You can also have lemon water and coconut water.
  7. Avoid too many aerated drinks.
  8. Let that peg or that glass of wine last the entire evening. By doing this you will end up consuming less alcohol.
  9. Have grilled meats/veggies along with your drinks instead of deep fried varieties.
  10. Have clear soups.
  11. Keep a gap between meals and dessert. This distributes calories and doesn’t overload the digestive system.
  12. Avoid too many late nights in a row. The lack of sleep disturbs our metabolism and digestion. This in turn affects our mood and energy levels, many times leading to unhealthy binging.
  13. Be active. If you can’t follow your regular exercise routine, no problem. Make small efforts like climbing stairs, stretching, skipping etc.
  14. Plan outdoor activities.
  15. Connect with people. Don’t allow food to be the centre of everything. Play games, indulge in warm conversations and have fun.
  16. Be happy and don’t stress. Enjoy this holiday season and welcome the new year with loads of fun.

This way you can enjoy the holiday and festive season guilt free and to the fullest.

Happy holidays 🙂
